Wellbeing and Engagement

Friendship Day

On Friday 5 June our students celebrated Friendship Day – a special event created by our SRC Leaders. Students enjoyed making bracelets together, and it was truly lovely to see so many different friendships and connections forming across the College. It is a wonderful reminder of the power young people shape the culture of our community when they lead with kindness and intention.

Friendships are one of the most important parts of a young person’s life. Strong, positive friendships support students’ wellbeing, sense of belonging, and confidence – both inside and outside the classroom. When students feel genuinely connected to their peers, they are more engaged, more resilient, and better equipped to navigate the challenges that come their way. We are proud of the students behind this initiative and encourage all families to continue conversations at home about what it means to be a good friend and how we can include and look out for those around us.

Minimum Expectations and Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)

Thank you for your continued support of our Minimum Expectations and Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) framework. The consistency you model and reinforce at home makes a real difference – together, we are building a school culture where students know what is expected and can truly thrive.

Over the coming weeks, year level assemblies will continue to focus on our minimum expectations. As we head into Term 3, we will also be conducting random uniform checks across year levels. These checks will take place during class time – not just in Homeroom – so we can get an accurate picture of how students present themselves throughout the full school day.

Student Behaviour Support Policy and Procedures

Our Wellbeing Team is currently reviewing and updating our Student Behaviour Support Policy and Procedures. As part of this work, we are developing a clearer Behaviour Management Flowchart that will provide practical guidance across a range of situations – including attendance, general and serious behaviour, high-risk incidents and bullying, including on social media. We are also refining our Attendance Support Plan, Student Absence Learning Plan and Modified Timetable Plan to better meet the needs of our most vulnerable students.

Redeveloping our Mobile Phone and Uniform Policies will also remain a priority across Terms 3 and 4 as we continue to embed PB4L College wide. A particular thank you to all families who are reinforcing mobile phone expectations at home, especially around using their student card at the Canteen rather than their phones – that shared consistency is what keeps expectations clear and fair for all students.

Commendations

Just as families can see when a student receives an infringement, commendations are equally visible – and they matter. Positive recognition is something both students and parents genuinely value. Staff continue awarding commendations to celebrate effort, growth, values in action and contributions to our community. A simple acknowledgement can go a long way to building a culture where every student feels supported, expectations are clear and positive behaviour is celebrated.

Child Safe Standard – MACS CARE

As a proudly child-safe school, Kilbreda is committed to ensuring every student feels safe, respected and valued. MACS CARE is the initiative that brings our Child Safe strategies to life across the whole community – and at its heart is a simple but powerful belief: child safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Each edition of our Newsletter will highlight one of the 11 Child Safe Standards. This edition focuses on Child Safe Standard 1: Establishing a culturally safe environment where the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children are respected and valued.

We encourage all families to read the download fact sheet below to learn more about what this standard means in practice and how it shapes the way we work at Kilbreda.
