Spotlight on Talent

Bailee M (Year 8) has been nominated for her Cubist-style trial. Her use of vibrant colour and a fractured, shattered aesthetic is highly effective. The integration of 2D shapes, combined with mixed media techniques including collage, pastels, fine liner and charcoal demonstrates a confident and considered approach.

Excursion Highlights

VCE Top Designs Excursion

On Thursday 30 April, the VCE Visual Communication Design students attended the Top Designs Exhibition at the Melbourne Museum. Students had the opportunity to explore a diverse range of outstanding folios and final works selected from across Victoria, providing valuable insight into the high standard and creative possibilities within the subject. The exhibition showcased innovative responses to everyday design problems, with students engaging closely with a variety of design approaches, concepts and presentation techniques to inspire and inform the development of their own Unit 4 VCD SAT folios.

Student Reflection

On 28 April, our Year 10 art class went on an incredible excursion to the NGV Melbourne and surrounding streets. It was a great opportunity to get to see some amazing artworks face to face! We first went to Degraves Street underground exhibition, which was a great example of how local Australian artists can have the chance to showcase their work. We then went to the Top Arts Exhibition. It showcased the skills of some of the VCE students across Australia from 2025, which showed us how art can be displayed in diverse ways to help show the meaning of the artwork.

Afterwards we got to explore the 18th-19th-century Australian art focusing on Post Impressionist artwork and the ever changing styles. Lastly, we went to Hosier Lane to explore Melbourne Street art. It was interesting to see small-detailed artwork amongst the large spray painted designs on the walls. The art told political stories as well as personal ones. There was so much colour and everything was overlapping and unfiltered, which was refreshing to see. We learnt so much from this excursion and it was a good guide on processes in how to improve our own art. Overall it was a great experience and a fun day!
