Pastoral Program – Homeroom Canvas

The Year 9 Pastoral program has provided students with the opportunity to engage in a range of art and craft activities, helping to foster strong connections within each Homeroom.

Last term, students participated in the design and creation of a Homeroom Canvas. The final pieces are a vibrant mix of originality, creativity and imagination. While the task was introduced during a Pastoral lesson, many students chose to attend additional lunchtime sessions to complete their work.

This initiative offered a wonderful opportunity to see teamwork in action, with students collaborating within their Homerooms and recognising the diverse skill sets each individual brings. Each canvas is unique and tells part of the story of its Homeroom. Themes included beach scenes featuring beach boxes and sea life, creative displays of student names through illustrated drinks, smurf-inspired characters, handprints forming the mane of a lion and tropical palm tree designs.

Class Captains

Students recently participated in class elections to determine their class leaders. Each Homeroom was given the autonomy to decide whether to appoint Captains for the semester or rotate the role each term.

A Class Captain acts as an important link between students and the school, helping their Homeroom feel heard, organised and connected. This leadership opportunity allows students to:

• Act as the voice of the class by sharing ideas, concerns and feedback with teachers and leadership
• Assist with organisation, communication and daily classroom routines
• Help create a positive and respectful classroom environment
• Encourage participation in school activities such as events, assemblies and initiatives
• Foster a sense of belonging within the Homeroom and wider school community
• Demonstrate the College’s values of service, compassion and responsibility
• Contribute to student leadership within the school
