Collaboration in the Art classroom is a powerful and inspiring experience. When students work together, they share ideas, challenge perspectives and build on one another’s creativity. Through discussion and experimentation, the classroom becomes a dynamic space where different viewpoints shape richer and more thoughtful artworks.
In creating a collaborative piece inspired by Locust Jones, the Year 10 Art students had the opportunity to explore the theme of ‘narratives’ and respond to contemporary issues through expressive drawing. Like Jones, students layered imagery and text to communicate urgency, movement and emotion. Working collectively encourages risk-taking and problem-solving as students negotiate composition, symbolism and meaning together.
Using drawing materials such as ink, pen and markers, students can experiment with bold lines, energetic mark-making and tonal contrasts. Collaboration not only strengthens technical skills but also deepens understanding of how art can tell stories and respond to the world around us. Thank you to Sonya Hood for guiding the students through this engaging process as they begin the Semester of Art studies.
