Library
In 2026 Kilbreda is focusing on and highlighting our core value of Justice, where we all take the responsibility in Making the Needs of the Vulnerable Paramount. The Kilbreda College Library provides an equitable and safe environment for every patron, every school day, especially for students who require a quieter and more secure refuge in which to work, socialise and thrive.
Our new Year 7 cohort has already made the Library a welcoming place to connect, with lively conversations about themselves and their reading bringing energy to the space.
Each year in Book Week, the Library raises funds to support those most vulnerable, such as the Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project (BASP) and the Wellsprings for Women organisation. Through these initiatives, we aim to ensure that our commitment to justice extends beyond our walls and into the wider community.
The Library is open Monday to Thursday from 8.00am to 5.00pm and Fridays from 8.00am to 4.00pm. Students are encouraged to make use of Homework Help after school, supported by College staff and teachers, as well as opportunities for independent study.
Our two major themes for Term 1 highlight literature that recognises International Women’s Day (8 March), as well literature that promotes and highlights women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM). We look forward to welcoming families and visitors to the Library on Open Day, Saturday 14 March.
As we reflect on our call to justice, we are inspired by voices that challenge us to see beyond ourselves and act with compassion and solidarity:
“Openness to God makes us open towards the marginalised of this world, and gives us the courage to leave the confines of our own security and comfort to become bruised, hurting and dirty as we joyfully approach the suffering other in a spirit of solidarity.”

– Pope Francis
Katherine Bennell-Pegg, the first person to qualify as an astronaut under the Australian flag, is known for her quote on the overview effect: “You can’t see borders from up there, just a fragile, shared home, and a powerful truth: we’re all in this together. Space is not about escaping the Earth but helping us to see it clearly”.
We wish staff, students and the wider Kilbreda community every success in 2026!
