Kilbreda’s Inaugural Year 7 Band and Orchestra Recital

On 1 September, Kilbreda College hosted its Year 7 and 8 Band and Orchestra Recital, a vibrant celebration of musical courage and growth. For many students, this was their first time performing publicly, and they showed remarkable bravery and enthusiasm as they took to the stage. The recital featured a range of ensembles, including Ms Rabbetts’ Year 7 Band class and Mrs Wanda Elton’s Year 7 Orchestra class, both of which demonstrated impressive progress and ensemble skills.

A special highlight was the debut performance of Mrs Elton’s Beginner Strings Ensemble, whose poised and confident playing was met with warm applause. Adding to the richness of the program were two beautiful solo performances: Eloise Holborn on violin and Caitlin Evans on tuba, both of whom played with musical sensitivity and poise. The recital also featured a chamber performance of Mozart’s ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik’ by Miranda Nguyen, Keira Au and Chloe Rijady, which showcased their developing ensemble skills and musical maturity. These performances, alongside the larger ensemble works, reflected the diversity and depth of talent emerging through Kilbreda’s instrumental music program. All students presented themselves exceptionally well, and their performances were a testament to their hard work and the nurturing environment created by our music staff.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the families and caregivers who continue to support their children’s musical journey – it makes a world of difference. We are also deeply grateful to our instrumental tutors, Ms Lyons, Mr Law and Ms Foxx, and learning assistant Ms Ono, for their dedication, encouragement and expert guidance. Their work behind the scenes plays a vital role in helping our students grow in confidence and skill. We are incredibly proud of each performer and look forward to seeing them continue to pursue music with passion and joy in the years ahead.

VCE Music Students Share Their Talents at September Recital

On Monday 8 September, Kilbreda College hosted its VCE Music Recital, giving Unit 2 and Unit 4 students the opportunity to perform for their families and receive feedback from an independent assessor, based on the VCE Music Contemporary Performance criteria.

Unit 4 students – Leah Royal, Cara Honan, Grace Robins, Alyce Judukian and Maya Corbett – presented their full 20-minute solo performance programs, each carefully curated to meet VCAA requirements. Their sets included:

  • One Australian work, celebrating our rich musical heritage
  • One live ensemble performance, demonstrating collaborative musicianship
  • A diverse range of techniques, highlighting each student’s personal style and musical growth
  • A reimagined cover song, showcasing creativity and interpretive skill through a fresh take on a familiar piece

Each student delivered their performance with remarkable focus, professionalism and artistic integrity. The audience was treated to an inspiring evening of music that reflected months of dedication and refinement.

Congratulations to all performers for their outstanding efforts. We hope this experience encourages you to continue practicing, exploring and striving toward musical achievements you can be truly proud of.
