Kilbreda was honoured with a visit this week by Kilbreda legend, Anne Brown (nee Duffy), who brought a few items in for the archives. Anne, a past pupil from Prep to Year 11 (1957) and staff member for nearly 40 years, was a talented athlete at school and a particularly fast runner.
When I was at school, as in the decades before, school sports were held on Sundays, which is interesting in light of current discussions suggesting that, with Catholic schools very well attended, that it is Sunday sporting commitments keeping families from Mass.
Anne sent a collection of Kilbreda sports programs, which show the places she attained in each event. In the past, such events were reported in the local newspaper and a clip shows the detailed results of a carnival in about 1950.

Of interest too, was a 1947 concert program which includes the singing of the College anthem, which, as far as I know, failed to come to our attention in the writing of Kilbreda’s centenary history ‘A View from the Tower’. Also, an interesting prospectus from the same period.

The photo below shows Anne as the age group winner in 1951, back row left.
