RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND FAITH DEVELOPMENT

Kilbreda College Chapel

At Kilbreda College Religious Education is a compulsory study at each level. It is central to the curriculum and all aspects of school life. Comprehensive and systematic teaching of the Good News of Jesus Christ, appropriate to the faith level of the students, is taught at all levels. Scripture, doctrine, morality, Catholic faith heritage and social justice teaching are part of each course. Within the Religious education programmes at different levels, students study World religions, human sexuality, Church history and the faith dimension of contemporary issues.

We will be faithful to our Catholic heritage

At Year 11, students may choose from a variety of VCE Units, comprising Texts & Traditions Units 1-4 or Religion & Society Units 1-4.

At Year 12, students may choose from a variety of VCE Units, comprising Texts & Traditions Units 1-4 or Religion & Society Units 1-4 or may choose to do a school based course. Year 12's participate in a three-day retreat, Year 11's in a one day retreat.

We will engender a love of learning, hope and sense of purpose

Each day begins in Home Rooms with a prayer of the day and opportunities are provided throughout the year for prayer, meditation and liturgy. Whole school and level Eucharists and a variety of other liturgies are celebrated at different times throughout the year, for example, Opening of the school year, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, Advent, All Saints, All Souls, Brigidine Day, National Reconciliation and Refugee Weeks. All levels participate in days of reflection.

We will celebrate all that is good with joy and gratitude

Kilbreda has a strong commitment to social justice and at all levels students are encouraged to participate in one of the social justice groups operating in the school, eg. Justice and Democracy Forum, East Timor Project, St Vincent de Paul, Amnesty and Caritas. In their time at Kilbreda students have opportunities to participate in social action, eg. Years 8, 9 and 10 Community Service, Big Sister Little Sister Program.

Whilst not every teacher is involved in the formal Religious Education curriculum, all staff are responsible for the informal Religious Education Curriculum, through their daily interaction and the witness of their lives as Christian educators. The School Motto, the Vision Statement and the Brigidine Core Values inform every aspect of life at Kilbreda.

We will welcome all people, especially the most vulnerable
