PATHWAYS AND CAREERS

Kilbreda College Careers Office is located in the Library and Information Centre. The Careers Office provides information about employment opportunities, School Based New Apprenticeships and tertiary studies. Students and families may make an appointment to see Mrs Carmel Smart, the careers Coordinator. The Careers Coordinator works alongside the Work Experience and VET Studies Coordinators.

At Year 10, the Crossroads program introduces students to a variety of pathways options and advises students about the prerequisites for tertiary courses. This formal study looks at a number of workplace issues as well as VCE and VCAL studies. Students complete the required occupational health and safety training before undertaking two weeks of work experience.

Throughout Years 11 and 12, student workshops are held to discuss various career and employment opportunities and training requirements. In conjunction with the Year Level Coordinators, the Careers Coordinator attends assemblies, addressing a number of topics relating to transition.

Part-time employment and short term courses are advertised on the daily bulletin throughout the year. Each newsletter has a Careers section that profiles a current Year 12 student, and occasionally, past students. Past students are invited to speak to the current Yr 11 and 12 students about the courses they are undertaking.

The Careers Coordinator is available to see year 12 students who wish to change their preferences following the VCE results .
