WORLD CHALLENGE 2009

About World Challenge

world challenge logoAs the original schools expedition company, World Challenge offers a program geared to the education of young people.

Challenge
Students face a series of mental and physical challenges, taking them outside their comfort zones and teaching them how to overcome adversity, cope with new environments and become more aware of both their strengths and weaknesses.

Participation
Tapping into our expertise and extensive resources, students participate by working as a team, taking responsibility, setting and meeting objectives and learning to become confident decision makers.

Environment
Students will learn to become more environmentally aware by exploring diverse landscapes, finding out about other cultures or discovering more about their own. They will gain a broader global perspective and a greater respect for the world.

Life is an incredible journey...
Students who participate in a World Challenge expedition will embark on an amazing journey of self-discovery. The life skills they learn will not only aid personal growth, but can help secure university places and impress future employers. Kilbreda's involvement in the 2009 World Challenge Program

This year we have 18 girls participating, and we are going to Cambodia and Vietnam for 4 weeks at the end of the year. The World Challenge combines social activities, personal challenges and recreation. Students will work in each community for a week. The students currently in Yrs 10 & 11 are guided through a process that includes goalsetting, personal fundraising, physical and social presentations. The emphasis is on team work and service. The students will also be involved in a community service project, trekking and recreation.

The girls have been doing individual and team fundraising including activities such as bake sales and car washes. There is also an upcoming practice camp being held in April.

This page will be updated with more information about the World Challenge & related events in the coming months.

WORLD CHALLENGE – VIETNAM/CAMBODIA UPDATE AUGUST 20TH 2009

As many of you know, World Challenge is an educational expedition to Vietnam and Cambodia. We have taken up the challenge and have dedicated ourselves to working, saving and attending regular meetings, all to experience an opportunity of a lifetime. We travel to and throughout Vietnam and Cambodia from November 21st – only three months to go! Whilst away we will be challenged physically, emotionally and mentally. We will undertake two arduous hikes/treks and a community project to support residents in their own community. Each phase of the expedition offers us a new challenge – just being away from home will be our first big challenge.

From 25 to 27 April we went to the State Wombat Forest for our first training camp where we learnt how to survive on a hiking trip, how to pack our gear successfully, how to navigate variant areas of the environment – cross rivers, climb steep inclines etc. We also developed mild frostbite in the freezing cold – the coldest weekend this winter!

We have already held many fundraisers such as the car wash, bake sales and lolly selling at 42nd Street, but now our biggest one is approaching. The Trivia Night is on the 28 August and, at $10 a head, it will be a cheap and fantastic night. Make it a date – book in for two or a table of ten – bring your own picnic dinner and drinks and be entertained by the sizzling talents of the World Challenge Team as they take you through general knowledge, music, celebrity, geography, famous faces and more trivia. We have been working endlessly, pulling strings and asking favours to make this night a success. If you would like to come and support us please call the Kilbreda Office. We hope to see you there!
