STUDENT ENRICHMENT

Kilbreda acknowledges that students have many gifts. Staff are encouraged to facilitate experiences that are fulfilling and challenging, in accord with the Brigidine Core Values. These goals and practices are reflected in Kilbreda's Enrichment Policy.

Student enrichment is provided within the normal curriculum, and through additional level, subject and individual experiences. Such experiences may be initiated by staff, students or parents. In some instances a student may undertake a unit of work at a higher level.

Examples of enrichment opportunities are formal university enrichment studies, University of NSW Mathematics, Science and Literature competitions, Maths Challenge, Tournament of Minds, Debating (DAV), Young Writers Award, Poetry competitions, Public speaking, Alliance Francaise and Dante Alighieri. A range of art, music, drama, sporting and technology opportunities are available to students on a regular basis.

When appropriate opportunities become available for specialised small group enrichment, e.g. De Bono workshop, consideration is given to how such experience can be undertaken and shared.

A small fund, administered by staff, facilitates enrichment opportunities that students may not normally access. Successful applicants can receive funding for up to half the expenses involved in such an opportunity. In the past funding has been given to a recipient of the National Science Schools' Seminar in Canberra, the Siemens Science School at Monash University.
