OVERVIEW

We believe that as a Catholic Secondary School for girls in the Brigidine Tradition, curriculum developed within a framework of values and practices that are consistent with the Gospel call ‘to live life to the full' will respect individual differences and challenge students to do their best. At Kilbreda College curriculum meets the expectations of both National and State Educational bodies.

Students experience a Curriculum that builds a sense of belonging and positive behaviours through participation. Students learn in different ways and at different times, and curriculum is developed so as to allow for these various stages. The needs of the individual are generally met within the classroom. However, additional curriculum support and extension opportunities are offered at each Year level.

Core Curriculum at Years 7 - 10 provides students with a breadth of experience that enables them to achieve competency and confidence in literacy, numeracy, resource management and information technology. The elective program at Year 10 offers students an opportunity to follow their interests and strengths. Students may choose one of two pathways to complete their senior years at Kilbreda: the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). Students are supported in their decision-making and transition from one year level to another.

An extensive program of sport, performing arts, instrumental music and activities such as debating and Tournament of Minds caters for the interests and abilities of many of our students.

We are committed to promoting students' self esteem, resilience, physical health and wellbeing. Through an understanding of local, national and international contemporary issues students are challenged to make meaning of the world in which they live. The classrooms will be invigorated through diverse approaches to learning. Through research, problem solving, critical thinking students are encouraged to become independent learners, compassionate and engaged in life.
