TEAMING WITH EAST TIMOR

The original project, 'Teaming Up with East Timor', began as an outreach project in 2004, the year of Kilbreda's Centenary. In January and May of that year staff and students travelled to East Timor and visited a number of schools with the object of establishing an ongoing project.

Since then a Canossion Sisters' school, Oscar Ruas College in Ossu, East Timor, has been adopted as a sister school. The Kilbreda Community is committed to raising funds to support this school.

In 2006 staff and students will visit East Timor and it is intended that this experience be offered to staff and students every second year. The project promotes an understanding of the issues that affect our nearest neighbour, establishes goodwill and provides some resources to Oscar Ruas College.

Students who have been fortunate to visit East Timor have found the experiences to be transformative. Those selected for this project share their experience with their peers and the wider community in a number of ways.

The Kilbreda Community enthusiastically supports this project through reading, discussion and reflection, fundraising and collection of goods for distributed in East Timor.
